Justification Letter to Attend IEDC's Annual Conference

I’m writing to request approval to attend the International Economic Development Council’s (IEDC) 2024 Annual Conference, taking place from September 15th to 18th in Denver, Colorado. 

The theme for this year’s conference is “Championing Economic Development Superheroes.” This theme underscores the pivotal role we play in driving economic growth here in our community. The conference offers a blend of keynotes, breakout sessions, networking opportunities, and workshops that will greatly benefit our organization. Attending this conference will provide me with valuable insights and strategies that align with our goals and can help drive our initiatives forward. 

Here are some compelling reasons for me to attend: 

  1. Comprehensive Learning: The conference will explore six tracks that are crucial to our work, I’ve listed them below:
      • Marketing and Telling Our Stories: Learn how to effectively communicate our successes and initiatives to stakeholders. 
      • Talent and Workforce Strategies: Gain insights into developing and retaining a skilled workforce. 
      • Solving the Housing Crisis: Discover innovative solutions to address housing challenges. 
      • Climate Change and Sustainability: Explore strategies for sustainable development and climate resilience. 
      • Rural Prosperity: Understand the unique challenges and opportunities in rural economic development. 
      • Entrepreneurship and Ecosystem Building: Learn how to foster a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. 
  2. Networking Opportunities: I’ll be able to engage with industry leaders, peers, and potential partners to exchange ideas and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
  3. Expert Speakers: The conference will allow me to learn from renowned experts and seasoned practitioners who will share their experiences, success stories, and practical advice.
  4. Hands-On Learning: I’ll get to participate in interactive workshops and panels that address current challenges and emerging trends in economic development.
  5. Resource Access: Being in Denver will provide me with access to a wealth of resources, including case studies, research reports, and best practices that can be directly applied to our work. 
  6. Denver’s Economic Development Ecosystem: In addition to the main conference program there are separate tours that will give me a first-hand look at how Denver fosters innovative solutions. 

By attending the IEDC 2024 Annual Conference, I will gain cutting-edge knowledge and skills that will enhance my ability to contribute to our organization’s success. The insights and connections made at this conference will not only benefit my professional growth but also provide actionable takeaways that can be implemented to improve our projects and initiatives. 

Registration covers access to all plenary and breakout sessions, the conference app, sponsored networking events and sponsored lunches. There are also several paid tours and networking events that cost between $30 - $100.
